Before They Cut Down Our Tree

J to K Productions

Sam and Cal both have their story about what happened on prom night ten years ago. What they don’t have is the others. Now, Cal returns home to take care of her mother’s funeral and in doing so, encounters Sam at their childhood tree. Told through interwoven scenes from the past and present, this starts their journey of confronting past secrets, accepting childhood mistakes, and allowing oneself to grieve and forgive. But all of this must happen before they cut down the tree.

Initially developed through Vancouver Asian Canadian Theatre’s MSG program in partnership with PTC, this play has had two successful public readings and was also developed in association with the PHT Creative Hub. This will be the first time the play will be fully staged. This play is a PTC Company Collaboration.

  1. An inspiring and heartfelt production that delves into themes of friendship, loss, queer and Asian identity, and womenhood. Rooted in personal experiences, it delivers a powerful message of change and hope. A must-see for its rare and meaningful representation on stage.
